Create Rebellion Chapter 3 Review
Pages 19-24
Chapter 3 begins with this utter nonsense: “The common man’s sickening philosophies will always linger in the air around you like a foul stench, seeking to discourage you from continuing your mission. Heed them not.”
It would be nice if Robbie could provide an example of “sickening philosophies” of the “common man”. But since this is an ABSTRACT MANIFESTO, not the ramblings of a delusional narcissist, the reader once again has to try to decipher it. I tried. No luck.
One thing I did glean from this sentence is that this is another example of Robbie thinking he’s special. And because he thinks he’s special, that makes him better than the average, or “common” person.
He states “their common sense rules of their uninspired world are...a fragile collection of socially reinforced illusions.” At this point, and I’m not even off the first page of chapter 3, I’m so irritated that I whipped it across the room. I see why my copy has burn marks on the front.
Robbie warns that although you destroyed the buildings and the leaders (as previously instructed), their “poisonous teachings” can linger for “centuries “.
He warns that one should be “leery of the massive structures that promise learning...” (ok I got this one - universities! Yay me) “...[that]...only dole out ample servings of carefully contemplated conformity”. Robbie only went for a very short time to a junior college (no hate on junior colleges) and even according to Sarah he was not a diligent student so I don’t think he’s really got his finger on the pulse of higher education.
Robbie expounds angrily on college. He claims that in college you learn that they tell you what to be and refers to textbooks as “debauched documentations”. He recommends that you shun college (or as he calls it, an “unenlightened empire”) and be free. He believes that too many people, mostly “dark-dwellers” (haters) go to college and thus are spiritually destitute. “Violently crusade in the opposite direction”. Someone’s hostile. I’m going to go out on a limb here and suggest that college is where Robbie got his first taste of failure. Mommy couldn’t teach all his classes and it’s likely that he got some realistic feedback from his professors.
#trippswag urges the reader to “paint your ship with the blood of doubt” and know that “concretely defined achievement” is just an idea that the “masses have established”.
This is the mindset that allows Robbie to go on the internet and wail “we out here”. You don’t have to actually achieve anything real in his mind. A self-published pamphlet and a TEDx talk will suffice.
Further, he wants the reader to know that you can’t “fly too close to the sun”. That’s s myth, he says. I think he read this part on Pinterest.
“Creativity is an emotion, not an attribute.”
I could write until I’m blue in the face on that sentence alone but I think we can all agree that he is full of shit and high on Sarah’s cleavage scent.
He says that creativity will “flow steadily” but never fully take shape, like “a colored swirl of smoke”. This is what he actually tells himself. I’m going to have to diligently, determinedly disagree with that wacko opinion. And I’d venture most actual creatives would too.
Robbie advises that you rid yourself of “sycophantic desires” to keep your colorful creative smoke flowing freely. I’m guessing this means to not fall prey to “yes-people” - once again, I don’t know and I don’t think he does either. But we all know what Robbie does when he encounters “haters” on the internet. (Answer: Freaks the fuck out!)
“Consume pure forms of media that will expand your mind.” What Robbie considers a “pure form of media” is beyond me.
He contradicts himself at the end of chapter 3 by advising that you may need to “poison your mind” on your journey to inspiration. (?????)
Lastly he recommends that one pays attention to the ideas of others. He claims it will “broaden your vision” but I think that’s a subconscious nod to copycatting.
Oh and be sure to “construct a comfortable homestead inside your mind where you can drink steadily from the warmth of your creative glow.”
This chapter is even more all-over-the-place than the first two. Thanks for reading.
